Brockton is home to a vibrant and expressive youth community—but uninspired, routine events fail to capture their interest. We must create engaging, meaningful spaces where young people can come together safely, connect with one another, and express themselves freely and positively.
Teens need safe spaces to grow
FROM JOON • Even though your adolescent may start to crave time away from you, the early adolescent years can be the perfect time to set a precedent of spending quality time together. For many adolescents, it’s important to continue doing some of the same activities with their parents that they did during childhood, to retain a sense of predictability and dependability during a time of massive change.
As the parent, you can begin to mix in new experiences that honor their
growing independence - let them make more choices during the activities;
follow their lead, and ask for their opinion more frequently. The most
important element is creating consistency that they can trust, and
sticking with it even if your adolescent expresses indifference.
